5 Pros and Cons of Installing a Doorless Shower
Everyone has a vision for their bathroom, and our team at Custom Bath & Shower want to help you achieve it. Doorless showers have become increasingly popular in recent years as homeowners seek to create a more open, spa–like atmosphere in their bathrooms. A doorless shower is an open shower with no door or curtain. They are popular in some countries, but not very common in the United States. While there are many benefits to a doorless shower, there are also a few potential drawbacks that should be considered before making a final decision.
Here are six pros and cons of installing a doorless shower in your home:
Pros of a Doorless Shower
A doorless shower can give your bathroom a hotel like feel, among other things.
Create the illusion of more space
Doorless showers can make a small bathroom feel more open and spacious
Can be easily customized
Because doorless showers do not have doors or enclosures, they can be easily customized to fit the unique needs and style of your home.
Increased Ventilation
Doorless showers allow for increased ventilation, which can help to prevent mold and mildew build–up.
Easier to keep clean
Doorless showers are easier to keep clean because there are no nooks and crannies for dirt and grime to collect. There is also less surface area to clean.
More Light
With no door to block the light, a doorless shower can help to brighten up a small bathroom.
Cons of a Doorless Shower
On the other hand, doorless showers have a few disadvantages.
Water Spray
First, without a door or shower curtain to contain the water, they can be quite messy. Water tends to splash outside the shower area, onto the floor and even the walls. This can be especially problematic if you have hardwood floors or specialty tiles that are difficult to clean or replace.
Lack of Privacy
Second, doorless showers can be less private than their enclosed counterparts. If you have young children or live in a close–knit neighborhood, you may feel uncomfortable about being on display while you shower.
Personal Safety
One of the main reasons why doorless showers are a bad choice is because they can be unsafe. There is nothing stopping water from getting out of the shower and onto the floor, which can lead to slips and falls. Even if you‘re careful, it‘s easy to accidentally splash water out of the shower.
Children’s Safety
Finally, doorless showers may not be the best choice if you have small children or pets. Doorless showers can be dangerous for families with small children as there is no way to prevent them from walking into the shower area.
Less Sanitary
Because there is no barrier between the shower and the rest of the bathroom, water and soap can easily spread germs around. If you have a doorless shower, it‘s important to be extra diligent about cleaning the bathroom to prevent the spread of illness.

Whether or not a doorless shower is right for you depends on your personal preferences and needs. If you‘re willing to give up a little privacy and put in a bit of extra effort to keep the space clean, a doorless shower can add beauty and function to your bathroom.
