Case Study: Bidding Farewell to the “Columbus Blues”
Customer: Elston
Location: Columbus, GA
Project Type: Tub-to-Shower Conversion
The Challenge: A Tub Stuck in a Time Warp
If there’s one thing we know about summers in Columbus, Georgia, it’s that the heat and humidity can make you feel like you’re swimming through the air. After a long walk down the Chattahoochee RiverWalk, all you want is a refreshing, relaxing shower. Unfortunately for our client, Elston, stepping into his bathroom felt less like a refreshing oasis and more like stepping into a 1980s time capsule.
As you can see in the before photo, Elston was battling a dated, light-teal bathtub-shower combo. Not only was the “smurf-blue” aesthetic cramping the style of his bathroom, but stepping over that high tub wall every morning was becoming an unnecessary hurdle—frankly, navigating the rapids on the Chattahoochee River seemed safer. The space felt dark, cramped, and entirely uninspired. It was time for an upgrade.
The Solution: A Bright, Accessible Oasis
Elston reached out to the team at Custom Bath & Shower, looking to ditch the teal tub and prioritize accessibility without sacrificing an ounce of style. We knew exactly what to do. Our team recommended a complete Tub-to-Shower Conversion. We ripped out the old, gloomy fiberglass unit and started fresh. To combat the claustrophobic feel of the old setup, we installed brilliant, floor-to-ceiling white wall panels that instantly brightened the room and made it look twice as large.
To give the shower a modern edge and tie the room together, we outfitted the new space with stunning, dark oil-rubbed bronze fixtures. But we didn’t stop at just looking good; we made sure it functioned perfectly for Elston’s needs. We integrated custom corner shelving, a recessed shower caddy for seamless storage, and strategically placed, heavy-duty grab bars (matching the dark bronze finish, of course) to ensure stepping in and out was completely stress-free.
The Outcome: Modern Safety Meets Southern Charm
The results speak for themselves. Just take a look at the after photo, Elston’s bathroom underwent a night-and-day transformation. The bulky, awkward bathtub is gone, replaced by a sleek, low-barrier Walk-In Shower that is as safe as it is beautiful. The striking contrast between the pristine white walls and the dark fixtures gives the bathroom a sophisticated, contemporary feel that belongs in this decade.
Now, Elston can enjoy a safe, spa-like experience right in his own home. He finally has a shower equipped to wash away that famous Georgia humidity in style—no time machine required!
