Banish the Brass: A Flower Mound Masterpiece

Flower Mound, Texas, is famous for its beautiful 12.5-acre namesake wildflower hill and its gorgeous proximity to Grapevine Lake. But for local residents Michael and Vickey, their master bathroom felt less like a refreshing lakeside retreat and more like a time capsule firmly anchored in the early 1990s.

When the notorious DFW summer heat hits and you’ve spent the afternoon hiking the Northshore Trail, the last thing you want to do is wash off in a cramped, gold-rimmed telephone booth. Thankfully, they knew exactly who to call.

Here is the story of how Custom Bath & Shower brought this bathroom out of the past and into the present.

The Challenge: The 90s Called, They Want Their Shower Back

Take a peek at the Before photo. That heavy brass framing was doing this bathroom absolutely no favors—it looked like the shower enclosure was wearing shoulder pads.

The neo-angle design aggressively chopped the corner off the shower, making the space feel closed-in and claustrophobic. Add in the dated, standard-issue shower pan, the tiny corner seat, and the peeling wallpaper making a desperate bid for freedom above the stall, and it was clear this space needed an intervention. Michael and Vickey needed an oasis to escape the Texas humidity, not a daily reminder of a bygone era of interior design.

The Solution: Evicting the Brassy Behemoth

Custom Bath & Shower stepped in with a clear mission: maximize the space, modernize the aesthetics, and let the light in.

They ditched the chunky gold framing entirely in favor of a sleek, custom frameless glass design. Rather than keeping the awkward chopped-corner footprint, the team squared off the angles to give Michael and Vickey more actual elbow room. The dated fiberglass walls and pan were swapped out for elegant, large-format panels in a cool, calming grey tone.

The Outcome: A Cool, Contemporary Oasis

The After photo says it all—chef’s kiss.

The transformation is night and day. By removing the visual barriers of the heavy metal frames, the entire bathroom instantly looks twice as large. Here are a few highlights of the completed project:

  • Frameless Glass: Seamlessly opens up the room and lets natural light bounce around.
  • Upgraded Fixtures: The old showerhead was replaced with a sophisticated brushed nickel system, featuring a versatile handheld wand on a slide bar.
  • Built-in Convenience: A wider, modern corner seat (perfect for leg-shaving or just hiding from the kids) and integrated corner shelving keep things functional and tidy.
  • Refreshed Upper Walls: The peeling wallpaper was replaced with a clean, textured border that perfectly complements the new shower panels.

Now, instead of stepping into a brass cage, Michael and Vickey can step into a spa-like retreat that finally matches the beauty of their Flower Mound neighborhood.
